19 Apr 2006 ::: Limousine Operators Would Be Hard Hit by N.J. Sales Tax

Limousine operators, the landscaping industry, and golf and health clubs would be among the hardest hit if state lawmakers agree to Gov. Jon Corzine's plan to extend the state sales tax to businesses that don't pay it now. A report by the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services, using data from the state Treasury Department, showed that the extensions would raise $247 million in the next fiscal year. Nearly 60% of that would come from those three industries. Corzine also wants to raise the sales tax from 6% to 7%.
